I recently bought this lens on craigslist, I have no idea what it was used for but it is a beautiful lens. I have emailed Nikon and they have been sending it all around the company trying to help me figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

that might be nautical rather than aerial??? I could see something like that used on a sub with a quick release. It would make sense as it would gather an enormous amount of light not so much for spotting but rather photographing enemy ships or shore spying???? pm-r
